Accomplishments

Here are a few of our success stories through the years.  These projects took anywhere from several weeks to a few years from start to finish.  So, this is just the bottom line description in very brief form.   For more info on our programs, please check out our Wellness Projects section!   
 
 
Research:

Rx Laughter and The UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center medical research project with children and teens undergoing a painful medical procedure.   Bottom line results:  Less pain and anxiety while watching funny shows during the painful medical procedures.  Medical Journal Publication.

Rx Laughter and the National Cancer Institute of Thailand for adults in cancer support groups watching their favorite Thai films and television programs on a regular basis in support groups.  Bottom line results:   The adults in cancer support groups who participated in this project of several months reported less pain and improved sleep over a period of time, vs. the control group.   Paper.

 

Therapeutic & Educational:   


Rx Laughter has recently expanded into addiction treatment care for teenagers in rehabilitation clinics struggling with dependence on alcohol, drugs and prescription medicine. For more information, visit our Therapeutic Care page.

Rx Laughter Film and Tv Wellness Workshops at the Markstein Cancer Education and Prevention Services Clinic at the Alta Bates Medical Center in Oakland, California. Bottom line responses:  New, upbeat perspectives and an ability to "unclot their feelings" thru humor.

Rx Laughter Improv and role playing at the Edelman West Side Mental Health Clinic (Division of California Department of Mental Health).  Bottom line responses:  Clients transitioning from intense therapy who participated in comedy improv role playing with their therapists reported more self-confidence, a renewed sense of self, and a more humorous perspective about some issues.

Rx Laughter Closed Circuit Comedy Channel at the Mattel UCLA Children's Hospital Pediatric Hematology Oncology Critical Isolation and ICU Units. Bottom line results: This comedy channel resulted in companionship, emotional relief, and positive anticipation of daily comedy viewings for isolated children and their families.
