Education

New- 2023: The Rx Laughter book: "Personal Stories from the Entertainment Industry- How Humor Helped Me Overcome Adversity and Trauma

Rx Laughter has officially begun our new magazine and book of exclusively-written pieces by top writer/producers and other notables in the entertainment industry who describe how they have used humor to survive a personal crisis. Funny scenes fom shows and movies that had an impact will be shared.

It will be distributed to mental health clinics, addiction centers, hospitals, schools and more for teens and adults in need. TCompiled and Edited by Sherry Hilber, the Founder of Rx Laughter, our goal is to inspire and educate them on the importance of humor as self-care during the healing process.

Podcasts will complement the book as appropriate. (See next section below.)

All in line with our Educational outreach component of Rx Laughter to use humor as part of the healing process.


Rx Laughter Podcasts

These Rx Laughter digital educational wellness podcasts will feature interesting, vital people from all walks of life and accomplished entertainment industry professionals who through personal experience have used humor as a coping resource at times of personal tragedy or crisis. We invite them to share their stories through us in a safe and understanding one- on-one recording or conversation . These short podcasts will then be distributed online privately at no cost to elementary through high schools, assisted living facilities, hospitals and support groups.


Seminars about the power of comedic film in medical care

These included our presentations at the American Cinematheque (Marx Bros. screenings), the University of California at San Diego's La Jolla Playhouse "Discovery Sunday" program (Charlie Chaplin screening of Limelight), and the "Legacy of Laughter" panel of experts event ( Marc Cherry the Executive Producer of "Desperate Housewives"; Lucie Arnaz, philanthropist, performer and daughter of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, and Sherry Hilber, Founder of Rx Laughter and former ABC and CBS Primetime Program Executive.)


The Rx Laughter Humor and Medicine Library

This is a comprehensive academic reference manual (hard copy only) that includes the most significant scientific research regarding the connection between positive emotion and health. It includes a brief and clear summary of each article. Because it is quite extensive, we can only make it available for a reasonable fee that includes preparation, copying, shipping.


The Rx Laughter Humanistic Writing Competition

This competition was created by us to inspire writers to use comedy to address the human condition in a meaningful, entertaining way. Supporters included William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, Playtone Productions, Disney/ABC and Chuck Lorre Productions.


Mental Health Writers Workshop

This innovative writing workshop is meant to inspire new writers to address areas of mental health in new and existing series in a fresh and comical perspective that might otherwise seem overwhelming and find humorous ways to solve these issues. (Pending funding)
